Michael Black

FCCA CTA

Having originally started out as an actuarial student in Final Salary Pensions, Michael joined Haffner Hoff as a trainee in 2001, qualifying as an accountant shortly after. Michael qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2004 and was promoted to partner in 2008.

Over the years, Michael has been active in developing and managing all areas of the practice.

Michael prides himself on spending time with clients to understand their needs, enabling him to provide bespoke advice. He has a special interest in efficient profit extraction from companies, and pension contributions.

During his free time, Michael enjoys walking, cycling and swimming.

Howard Schwalbe

ACA

Howard trained and qualified at a five-partner practice in Manchester City centre, before eventually setting up his own practice specialising in the charity and NFP sector. In 2019 Haffner Hoff merged with Howard’s practice, with Howard becoming our dedicated Charities partner..

In addition to heading our audit department, Howard provides a full suite of accounting services for charities, including accounts preparation, audit and charity setups. He specialises in advising educational establishments as well as “owner managed” charities and is seen as the go-to consultant by many trustees, looking for guidance in this often-complex sector.

Away from work, Howard enjoys spending time with his wife and young family.

Samuel DeJong

FCCA

Samuel joined Haffner Hoff in 2004, training up in audit and accounts and building his knowledge and experience in general practice. He was promoted to partner in 2018 and now oversees staff development in addition to his client facing roles.

With a strong command of several languages, Samuel has built up a diverse portfolio of clients across the retail, property and charity sectors, forming strong working relationships.

Samuel takes pride in providing a wholesome experience to his clients and takes an interest in advising on a broad spectrum of areas ranging from business strategy to tax credits (and a variety of things in between!).

Away from work, Samuel enjoys spending time with his family and is also a governor at one of the local schools.

Simon Abeles

LLB CTA

Simon studied law at the London School of Economics and joined Haffner Hoff as a trainee in 2002. He was promoted to partner in 2018.

He heads up our tax team and oversees delivery of both compliance and advisory services.

Simon takes a particular interest in advising on VAT, investment structures and property taxes, amongst other areas and has provided highly efficient tax planning to many satisfied clients.

Away from work, Simon enjoys spending quality time with his family as well as studying and lecturing in the field of Jewish law and thought.

Gedalya Haffner

ACCA

Gedalya joined Haffner Hoff as a trainee in 2011, qualifying as a certified accountant in 2015. He was promoted to partner in 2024.

Gedalya has built up his knowledge and experience in general practice over the years and now manages a broad portfolio of clients, providing accounting and business advice.

In addition to spending time with this family during his spare time, Gedalya is an avid cyclist and has taken part in several long-distance charity rides.

Jeremy Weinstein

Having trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Tax Advisor at a Top Twenty national accountancy firm, Jeremy joined Haffner Hoff in 2018 and was promoted to partner in 2024.

Jeremy provides a broad range of bespoke tax advice to both private clients and owner managed businesses, with a particular focus on the areas of residence, Inheritance Tax planning and trusts, and business structuring.

Jeremy contributes regularly to the tax technical updates that we distribute to our clients.

In his spare time, Jeremy enjoys delving into Jewish law as well as going hiking with his family.

Aryeh Haffner

ACA

Having joined the firm as a trainee in 1975, Aryeh has been witness to Haffner Hoff’s continued growth for nearly 50 years, most of which has been in his previous role as partner.

In 2024, Aryeh moved in to a consultancy role, enabling him to have more time for persuing his personal interests. However, Aryeh is still very much available for both Haffner Hoff staff and clients alike.

Aryeh continues to draw on his considerable experience to provide accounts services as well as Corporation Tax advice and business consultancy. He has a strong interest in the property sector, and has built up specialised expertise in property syndicate accounting.

Away from work, Aryeh enjoys spending time hiking in the Lake District and along the English coast.

Dov Schwarz

FCCA

Having spent several years abroad, Dov moved back to the UK and joined the practice in 1986 and was promoted to partner in 1997.

In 2024, Dov moved in to a consultancy role, allowing him to take a step back from the pressures of partnership, and enabling him to provide focused services to his longstanding clients.

Dov has gained experience in many areas of general practice and provides accounts and tax services to a broad range of clients including the property and charity sector.

In his spare time, Dov enjoys spending time with his family and studying Jewish law. Dov has also been a trustee of a local charity for over 30 years.

Avi Dresner

FCCA

Avi studied Accounting and Finance at university graduating with a First before joining Haffner Hoff in 2009 and qualifying as an ACCA.

In addition to managing a portfolio of general practoce clients and advising clients on general taxation matters, Avi takes particular interest in providing SDLT advice in complex scenarios.

Away from the office, Avi enjoys spending time with his family and following his favourite red football team (Liverpool of course)!

Meir Hassell

FCCA

Having trained with an independent firm in the city centre, Meir joined Haffner Hoff in 2014.

Meir manages a varied, general practice portfolio of clients with a core of property sector clients, both investment and development. He works closely with his clients, providing practical tax and accounting advice to add value to their businesses.

During free time, Meir enjoys studying Jewish law and spending time with his family. He also takes a keen interest in cricket.

Menachem Salzer

FCCA

Having started out as the Finance Manager of a school in the North East, Menachem moved to Manchester in 2014, where he commenced training as a certified accountant at Haffner Hoff.

Menachem manages a portfolio of clients from a range of sectors. In addition to general practice, Menachem also manages our payroll team, and has been instrumental in its continued growth since joining us. Menachem also takes a particular interest in advising on State benefits.

In his “spare” time, Menachem takes a keen interest in nature.

Chaim Frenkel

ACCA

Chaim joined Haffner Hoff as a trainee in 2014 qualifying as a certified accountant in 2018.

In addition to general practice work, Chaim provides VAT compliance and advisory services to clients in a range of sectors.

With a keen interest in all things digital, Chaim is a certified Xero and QuickBooks advisor and utilises his skills and experience in this area to assist many clients within the diverse portfolio that he manages. He is currently studying towards a Diploma in Tax Technology (DITT).

Away from work, Chaim enjoys spending quality time with his family and keeps himself fit with regular jogging.

David Silbiger

David started his accountancy career at a local firm in 2009, gaining experience in all areas of general practice.

In 2017, David joined Haffner Hoff, where he manages a portfolio of owner managed business clients across a range of sectors, with a particular interest in the area of residential property.

David prides himself on building strong client relationships enabling him to take a proactive approach to supporting his clients.

Away from the office, David takes a keen interest in current affairs and enjoys spending time with his family.
